Frequently asked questions.

Do you accept insurance?

No, not at this time. Payment forms accepted include cash, check, and credit card (including Venmo or Zelle).

Can you describe the assessment process?

Following your free consultation to determine whether Dr. McLay is a good fit for your needs at this time, we will schedule an intake appointment in order to gather more background information, discuss the referral concerns, and develop a plan for assessment. 50% of the total cost of the assessment is due following the intake meeting and before the first testing appointment. The remaining 50% is due after assessments are complete/before the feedback meeting.

Behind the scenes, Dr. McLay will be reviewing records, completing interviews, collecting questionnaires, etc. For the most part, the actual testing will be completed over 2-4 sessions. The number of testing sessions and the length of each appointment is dependent on the amount of testing required, availability, and the individual’s ability to sustain cognitive attention. Of course, breaks will be given as needed but the preference is for each appointment not to exceed 2-2.5 hours.

Please note that although the intake appointment, feedback meeting, and some of the testing may be completed virtually, the bulk of the testing will be in-person. If you reside outside of North County San Diego, Dr. McLay may be able to schedule testing appointments closer to you at a local office or public library for an additional travel fee.
